Intrapersonal perceptions of success and failure can, like stereotype threat, be greatly influenced by the vision we have of ourselves in relation to others. It is the precariousness of these perceptions that will be investigated in this section. Biased perceptions of performance can either be swayed towards failure (based on negative cognitive biases and insecurity) or success (motivated by positive cognitive biases and narcissism). Similarly, our perceptions of our success have an equal likelihood of becoming skewed and disparate from reality, for various reasons. Perceptions of one’s own success and failure have traditionally relied on the same criteria which we use to determine the success and failure of others: critical acclaim, wealth, social comfort, etc. It is the latter perceptions, of how successful one views their own efforts, which will be explored in this follow-up piece. Lexier, however, focuses on the intrapersonal – perceptions of one’s own success. It is part of the system of art, and success for some artists can be hinged on that resulting interpretation.Īs we can see, Hancherow’s perception of success relies largely on interpersonal factors. Success in the contemporary visual art world requires an artwork to be visible or seen (or attempts to critique what is visible/invisible, e.g., Michael Asher among many others) it becomes open to interpretation from multiple publics, either positive or critical. His curator-collaborator at the time, Stephen Hancherow, held a more measurable perception of success centered on visibility: Lexier has managed to etch out a successful career that challenges the priorities of our capitalist model while still achieving critical success along its terms. I have to remind myself over and over again how lucky I am and how to appreciate the opportunities that I have been given, rather than lament the ones I have not.” This ideology is reminiscent of the lessons learned in childhood parallels cannot help but be drawn between Lexier’s approach to his practice and the schoolyard dictum: “you only lose if you don’t have fun.” ![]() When asked about his perceptions of success and failure, Lexier responded “like all things in life the important thing is to find the joy in the experiences that you do have … and by this I mean in the making of the work itself. And this is true for even the most successful artists you can think of.” We always want more for ourselves, there is always a show that we think we should have been in, there is no end to the wanting. ![]() Reflecting on the idea of “successful artists,” he said to me in a 2017 interview “it’s safe to say that no artist is truly content with their situation. His practice is often referred to as “idea-driven art,” motivated by American Conceptualism of the 1960’s and carefully balancing intuition with calculation to produce successful work. Calculation dominates the practice of Toronto artist Micah Lexier, who seeks out opportunities to collaborate with curators and artists in bringing his concept-based projects to life. You can clean adjustable window screen tracks using a disposable foam brush to help keep them free from debris. Maintenance and tips for your window screen The best way to save money is by buying window screens in bulk. One core determinant of the cost of the screen is the build quality - usually, aluminum and fiberglass frames cost less than steel frames. Note that most screens come in the lower range, with the premium quality ones cost between $20 and $30. You should get a decent window screen for about $10, although some cost over $100. Besides giving you a rugged screen, they also help protect you from the rain while giving you added privacy. While this is not always the case, some of the window screens come with ventilation slats and metal louvers. You will find some mesh that features a blend of nanofiber technology which can easily block out unwanted pests. Some mesh is made using fiberglass, while some are made using durable steel, which will not easily tear. Like the frame, the mesh elements of the screen could be made using a blend of materials. ![]() You want to make sure it is durable and functional. It is what allows you to get all the benefits of opening your window. The mesh is perhaps the most important element of the screen. Regardless of what a frame is made of, ensure it is rugged enough to resist breaking, warping, and cracking. Some frames come with galvanized metal which will help them survive harsh weather conditions.Īlso, weather stripping may be factored into the frame’s edges to keep insects and moisture at bay. Usually, a window frame often comes with a blend of different materials in its design. Framesįrames often differ in the materials used, ranging from steel to aluminum and wood. If you are someone that has multiple windows where you want to place your screens, purchasing them in bulk is a good way to save money. QuantityĪlthough most window screens come as one per window, you need to confirm since some listings offer two or even more screens with each order. Even though these products can be adjusted, you need to be sure that your product will fit into the desired window. Before buying a screen, ensure to measure your window dimensions. Some of the screens out there may also be vertically adjusted by simply flipping the screen over. The screen width usually can be adjusted to 36+ inches from 20 inches, depending on the product. They are often made in diverse heights, ranging from 10 inches to 24 inches. Screen sizeīecause of their design, window screens can fit different window ranges. Those are ideal for DIY projects such as building your own screened-in porch or replacing damaged screens. However, some products are designed for you to cut the screen to your desired size, and those will require more work to install. Ideally, you shouldn’t need any hardware or special tool to remove or install any such screens. Many of the screens come fully assembled, and the process of installing them just involves adjusting the screen to your window width and fixing appropriately. With most window screens, assembly and installation shouldn’t be hard. Installation processīefore you buy a screen, find out how simple or complex the installation and assembly process will be. ![]() Details to Consider Before Purchasing a Window Screenīefore you head out to buy a window screen, here are a few things you should think about. ![]() Doing this will help you cut down the costs of cooling while shielding your home furniture from the direct effect of the sun. When he visited Singapore, he concluded that all it had to offer was its airport: “the concentration of everything Singapore has to show: its efficiency, its cleanliness, its order.” Otherwise, the wealthy city-state was nothing more to him than “the largest supermarket of consumer goods, futility, and prissiness in Asia.” He had witnessed the fall of Saigon to the People’s Army of Vietnam and the Viet Cong, and the fall of Phnom Penh to the Khmer Rouge. A lot of organic milk is shelf stable, aka can be stored under your bed or in the pantry, but sold in the refridgerated section because that’s where Americans buy milk it could just as well be sold in the juice box aisle but the manufacturers pay for it to be refrigerated. It’s basically canning the milk by high heat, which makes it taste funny if you’re used to fresh milk. The ONLY way milk can be stable for 30-60 (or more) days is through ultra high temperature, UHT, pasteurization (sometimes called ultra pasteurized). Some of the rooms you get to go through and unpack in changes from a child’s bedroom, various bathrooms, kitchens, and various offices. The game takes you through eight houses, each with its own separate style and interior design. The visual styles chosen is very reminiscent of other indie titles which often partake in the use of pixelated art, except for a few outliers (such as Kena: Bridge of Spirits ), probably because it is an art style that has longevity behind it and is faster to pump out compared to art styles with higher levels of visual fidelity. This makes the sense of calm a part of what you get out of the game, similarly to the victorious rush you get when beating a difficult level. The gameplay remains the same throughout the game - a calm atmosphere with no pressures from timers or right and wrong indicators flashing the screen, allowing you to stack plates, hang towels, and arrange bookshelves at your own pace.
